Know the limits.

Icons from 16 to 512 pixels. ICO contains a PNG image for modern browsers. Check platform safe areas before publishing.

Transformed images are re-encoded from oriented pixels. Source EXIF metadata is removed; colour may change. Rename-only preserves bytes and metadata. Animation is rejected.
